Craving another of brewmaster Neal Engleman’s imperial hazy IPAs? Well today, Crave, the first of our Hop Leaf series of experimental IPAs, releases in both our taprooms. New Hours at The Parlour

NOW OPEN ON MONDAYS!

Our original brewery & taproom, The Parlour, started off with very limited hours when we first started 10 years ago, and our first big hours change to our taproom was in 2017. We have gradually adjusted hours over the year, but this one is BIG news! Many of you have asked for us to open our taps to you on Mondays, and we are here for it!

PLUS we are opening up at noon on Fridays & staying open late both Friday & Saturday!

Come and enjoy our specially crafted brews!

spring 2024 Kölsch Service

It's no secret that drinking beer in Germany is an experience like no other. Well, we are recreating that in our taprooms with Kölsch Service Day on May 11 at the Parlour and May 18 at the Imaginarium!

The fun starts at noon.

Here's how it works:

Kölsch is traditionally served in a tall, thin, cylindrical 20-cL(6.75oz) glass called a Stange. The beer is poured and placed in a Kranz, a circular tray designed to fit and carry a number of strangen for easy transport. Once you open your tab, instead of walking up to order a refill, we'll immediately replace an empty Stange with a full one, marking a tick on your coaster under the Stange. When you've had your fill, all you need to do is place the coaster on top of the empty Stange or bring your coaster up to the service counter and we'll close you out for the ticks on the coaster.

Each Stange fill will cost you only $3!

This service will be available for the entire taproom & patio. The Imaginarium in Atlanta and The Parlor in Decatur will offer freshly baked Bavarian pretzels with mustard, and the Parlour will also host a pop up by Love at Wurst Sight serving German fare.

Not interested in Kölsch Service? No sweat! You can still order any of our other beers at the bar per usual.

Helm's Deep Day 2022

Three Taverns’ most anticipated annual event, Helm’s Deep Day, returns this Saturday, 12/17, when we release the 2022 editions of Helm’s Deep, German Chocolate Helm’s Deep, (and new for this year) Triple Mash Helm’s Deep.

This Saturday will be the 7th annual release of our most coveted barrel-aged beers, Helm’s Deep and the variant German Chocolate Helm’s Deep, that first surprised crowds at Shelton Fest and took home the People’s Choice Award at the Strong Beer Fest in 2016. Our brewmaster, Neal Engleman, joined 3T in 2020 and happily took over the Helm’s Deep program with his first rendition being last year’s 2021 HD & GCHD. Never easily satisfied, Neal reworked the 2022 recipe for what is certainly our best version of Helm’s Deep to date. Aged for a year in 8-year Willet bourbon barrels, the 2022 vintage is more viscous and glides along the tongue with more depth of flavor and barrel character than any of the previous year’s releases. For GCHD, we added 21 lbs. of toasted coconut per bbl and after the first taste, our lead packager Rock commented that it reminded him of his childhood and his mom’s German chocolate cake with coconut icing. Both are available this Saturday in 750ml size in limited supply.

With an insatiable curiosity, Neal wondered what an even thicker and more concentrated Helm’s Deep could accomplish, so in 2021 after sending HD into barrels, our brew team made another batch, but with three mashes (3 brews) that were added on top of each other during 20 hours of boiling to bring forth the thickest and darkest Helm’s Deep to ever enter bourbon barrels. Also aged for a year in 8-year Willet barrels, the Triple Mash Helm’s Deep made its debut at our anniversary last month and is the most viscous and darkest Helm’s Deep yet. Worthy of the horn of Helm Hammerhand, this very limited beer will be joining the release this Saturday in 375ml bottles.

All three versions are available to purchase online via Oznr. And all 3 versions will be on tap in Decatur and at The Imaginarium (with bottle pick up in Decatur only).

9th Anniversary

9 years in and it feels like yesterday - but also a lifetime ago - that we brewed our first batch of Three Taverns beer. Please join us this Saturday, November 19th, from 12p - 8p as we celebrate 9 wonderful years of making beer in Decatur, GA! Tickets are now available to purchase here and your ticket includes admission to the anniversary, 8 beer tickets, a commemorative 9th Anniversary glass (seen above), live music, and multiple games. We’ll also have plenty of food options on site and an axe throwing competition. Tickets will also be available to purchase day-of at the brewery.

We'll have over 45 beers pouring including our 9th Anniversary Barleywine. For this limited edition anniversary release our Brewmaster and Wood Cellar Manager, Neal Engleman, crafted a new barleywine and aged it for 13 months in 8-year old Willett bourbon barrels. The result is a 12% well-balanced and rich bourbon barrel aged barleywine with notes of caramel, ripe figs, vanilla, and whiskey barrel character with a touch of coconut and Christmas spice in the finish. This is a special beer celebrating 9 years of brewing and is best enjoyed with others - we hope it has a place at your table in the upcoming holiday season. This 9th Anniversary BBA Barleywine is packaged in 375ml bottles (seen above) and will be released at our anniversary this Saturday, November 19th. A small amount of bottles are available now for presale by clicking here. The bulk of our bottle inventory will be available to purchase on-site this Saturday. Get your bottle(s) before they're all gone!

In addition to our 9th Anniversary Barleywine we’re also pleased to present to you a new twist on Helm's Deep and three new HD pastry variants. Triple Mash Helm’s Deep brings a deeper, darker, and fuller bodied experience to our iconic imperial stout. Three separate brews were combined for over 20 hours of boiling to reduce the elixir to a supremely more intense and viscous version of the already intense Helm’s Deep - this is Helm’s Deep on steroids! A year of aging in 8-year-old Willett Bourbon barrels has delivered a complex stout with bourbon saturated flavors of fudge, brownie, and brown sugar. In addition to this specialty release we also have three pastry variants of TMHD, only available at Saturday's 9th Anniversary Celebration:

Hawaiian Host Helm’s Deep, with macadamia, toasted coconut, vanilla beans, and Kona coffee
Chocolate Hazelnut Helm’s Deep, with hazelnut, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and coffee
Pecan Cinnamon Roll Helm’s Deep, with pecans, vanilla beans, brown sugar, and cinnamon

Three Taverns Collaborates with Pilsner Urquell

Three Taverns collaborates with Pilsner Urquell and Pivovar Proud; travels to the Czech Republic to pour at the Pilsen Liberation Festival.

Three Taverns Brewery recently had the great privilege to collaborate on a beer with the experimental brewery of Pilsner Urquell, Pivovar Proud, and brew a hoppy pilsner for pouring in the Czech Republic at the 2022 Pilsen Liberation festival May 5-8. We first came on the radar of Pilsner Urquell when Senior Development Petr Starý discovered we made a beer called Prince of Pilsen. Prince is our hoppy pilsner that pays tribute to the world’s most influential beer style. Our entire crew was surprised when we received an email one morning from the Pilsen brewery stating it was time for the prince to come home. Per Petr’s request, we sent cans of Prince to the Czech Republic for sampling at their brewery where they gave the Prince high praise and a good tour of the brewery grounds.

Soon after Petr and Pivovar Proud’s Brewing Director, Michal Škoda, invited us to collaborate on a beer and to bring Prince of Pilsen to the city of Pilsen and pour it with them at the Pilsen Liberation Festival in May of this year. When we asked Petr why Pilsner Urquell wanted to create a beer with Three Taverns, he replied, “It was the name of your beer. When I saw you brewed a beer called Prince of Pilsen, I knew I wanted to try the beer. After sampling the beer at our brewery, I knew I wanted to see you guys in the Czech Republic and make a beer together.”

The Pilsen Liberation festival celebrates the liberation of Pilsen from German occupation by the U.S. at the end of WWII. Also known as the Day of Lilacs, on May 6, 1945, the citizens of Pilsen welcomed the American soldiers with lilacs as they entered the city and accepted surrender from the Germans. Under Soviet rule after the war, it was only after the fall of the Soviet Union that Pilsen could recognize America as the true liberators of their city. The first Liberation Festival was celebrated in May of 1990 and now people travel to this festival from all over the world. Every year the city of Pilsen goes back in time nationally to 1945 and celebrates its American liberators with festive parades including a convoy of military vehicles, 1940’s era jazz concerts, commemorations, and reenactments that serve as a reminder to never forget the horrible period of German occupation during WWII and of Soviet oppression during the cold war. With the events in the world today, celebrating liberation and freedom has never felt so important, and the opportunity to pour our own Prince of Pilsen in Pilsen and to brew a beer called Pilsen Liberation with the original pilsner brewery is an honor unlike any other in my nine years of running Three Taverns. When I asked what his favorite part of the festival was this year, Petr was quick to say “the fact that we belong to the West, and now even stronger than before.”

Inspired by our use of Citra for dry hopping Prince of Pilsen, Michal and Lenka Straková (Brewmaster, Pivovar Proud) wanted to brew another version of a hoppy pilsner. We couldn’t have been more excited at this request, and after making plans to brew the beer in Pilsen and Atlanta, our brewmaster, Neal Engleman, worked with Lenka on the translation of the recipe and brewing techniques from one brewhouse to the other. When asked what the pilsner beer means to them, Petr replied that “Pilsner Urquell is the mother and father of all pilsners,” while Neal said, “brewing this historic style with the original pilsner brewery is what dreams are made of.” Pilsen Liberation melds the classic crisp Czech malt and Saaz hop character with the distinctly American aromatic character from the use of Citra and Cascade hops.

After a night of drinking lots of pilsners in Prague, we arrived at Pilsner Urquell on May 7th and were greeted at the famous arches by Petr who quickly took us to the cellars to enjoy the classic, unfiltered Pilsner Urquell from the wooden lager tanks. Soon after we were met by Lenka and Michal and taken to Pivovar Proud, the experimental brewery on the Pilsner Urquell grounds, where we were given a tour of the now converted electrical plant. Of course, the best part of the tour was sampling the impressive variety of experimental styles being brewed by Lenka and her team. While touring Proud we were introduced to a special barrel of Pilsen Liberation that was slated for a ceremonial public tapping at the city square that Saturday as part of the festival activities. This turned out to be the exclamation point on this magical journey. On Saturday, we met Lenka on the brewery grounds and loaded the barrel onto the back of a 1940’s era U.S. Army truck, complete with American soldier reenactors. After joining the soldiers in the back of the truck, we rode past the waving crowds in Pilsen to the great cathedral on the city square. Neal was given the honor of tapping the barrel, and after a successful swing of the wooden mallet, we both poured Pilsen Liberation to a very happy crowd of festival goers. Neal and I agreed this surreal experience was easily one of the best beer moments ever experienced.

After a weekend filled with pub tours and tank pours of Pilsner Urquell, Neal and I returned to Atlanta and immediately started planning for the release of our brew of Pilsen Liberation on June 4th at both Three Taverns’ brewery locations. For this special celebration and beer release, we will be pouring the beer at both locations in the traditional Czech method via the newly installed Czech-made Lukr side pull taps and serving the beer in dimpled Euro-style mugs printed with our Pilsen Liberation logo. The brewery will be selling these mugs in addition to other Pilsen Liberation-themed items.

Pilsen Liberation will be available for purchase at both brewery locations in limited release 16oz 4-pack cans. The cans were designed by Metaleap Creative to reflect the historicity of this important event. Of special note regarding the cans, Pilsner Urquell was so impressed with the design that they requested samples to add to their archive collection at the brewery in Pilsen. After the celebration at Three Taverns on June 4th, limited amounts of the beer will be sent to market in both draft and 16oz. package form.
